The Apple iPad was officially announced in January 2010 by Apple founder Steve Jobs. The iPad is essentially a laptop sized version of the iPod touch.

The iPad went on sale in Australia in late May 2010. The cheapest iPad with 16Gb of memory and WiFi retails for $629, while the cheapest 3G compatible version costs $799.

Optus and Telstra have competitive 3G access and download rates for the iPad. For example Telstra is offering 2Gb of downloads for $20, and Optus is offering twice that amount for the same price.

The latest Apple iPad 2 has arrived in Australia. Those planning to buy one will pay up to $100 less than they did for the original iPad.

The new iPad 2 is 117g lighter and features a front-facing camera for video calling and a bigger rear camera that can capture 720p high definition video on the fly. iMovie and Photo Booth apps have been released to make the most of the new cameras.

The third generation iPad was announced in March 2012. It is also called the iPad 3, or iPad HD due to it’s new high definition display. It also features the latest Apple operating system iOS 5.

Everybody wants the newest iPad 3 as cheaply as possible.
